My True Nigerian Online Scam Story – Scammer Photos Bank Details And More

Posted By: Miss Diva - Saturday, August 15, 2015
Immediately I paid in the money I called her. And she said they were yet to get an alert. When I got home I told Patrick via WhatsApp that I had sent the money. He asked me to snap the receipt and send it to him via WhatsApp so he can forward it to the manager and have them process the package immediately for take off to Lagos.

But just few minutes after I did that, our conversation on WhatsApp changed to something else:

Patrick: I am looking for my money and document like $50,000 dollars.
Me: I don’t understand what do you mean?
Patrick: I don’t know where I kept my money. I am looking for my money in usa 50,000 dollars
Me: Are you for real?

It started to dawn on me at this time that I have been scammed. But immediately that thought came to my head the woman at the other end called me to say they have received the alert and that I’ll received the package within a few hours. So I decided to calm down and give him a second chance.

So I continued…

Me: I mean really?! How could that have happened?!
Patrick: I have reported my friend. He is in the state police now.
Me: Wow. Was he living with u?
Patrick: He was in my house some days back that was the money I wanted to come and use in Nigeria.
Me: Wow
Patrick: No I live alone he came visiting.
Me: Okay. Wasn’t that kind of money in a locked safe?
Patrick: Waist wallet
Me: Haba dear
Patrick: And my document.
Me: Any hope of getting it back?
Patrick: Yes.
Me: Oh that’s good. It wouldn’t affect your trip would it?
Patrick: My travelling document is there. I will talk to u later.

Then my phone rings. It was the so called American Cargo representative telling me ‘Madam there’s a problem o. While scanning the bag they found a lot of dollars inside. And they are seizing the luggage and won’t send it until…’

I don’t know if they’ve had some diabolical help in convincing me until now. But that call confirmed without any doubt that I was being scammed! I screamed at the woman. She asked me to contact my sender.

So I asked Patrick on WhatsApp:

“Are u trying to scam me?”

Patrick: y did u say that
Me: The so called Cargo Agent is telling me they found money inside the package.

He then sent me a lot of pictures on WhatsApp of the supposed items he sent to me. But not knowing that by doing that he sunk himself because one of those pictures had OLX written on it!

And I told him:

Me: I bet u didn’t notice one of the pictures have OLX written on it.
Patrick: it was a mistake

He called me afterwards. Said he was crying. I told him to keep crying while I rush to the bank to try and cancel the transaction. I guess I shouldn’t have told him that. I probably should have pretended to understand as I go to the bank to try and get my money back.

Anyway, I couldn’t get my money (N29, 040) back. The Teller lady at Eco bank said they’d withdrawn the money. I really wanted to expose these bastards. I talked to the manager about my desire to follow up with the issue. But he said there was nothing he could do. That he can only release information about the account if I contact the police, they investigate and confirm I was scammed and they ask the bank to take certain actions. Patrick called me while I was at the bank. I told him they better return my money or run the risk of being exposed. He threatened that if I did that they know where I live now and have my pictures. I don’t scare easily and I know he was only trying to scare me. Even if he meant it, the area I live, he will be dead before he can get access to me or anyone in the area and cause harm.

Anyway I decided to save my time and energy and count my losses, learn from it and help others learn from it too. I am not ready to waste my time with Nigeria police nonsense. Moreover there are many things I can easily do without involving the police to spoil his business. Even though I am sure none or most of the information he gave me were not his own including the pictures, writing this post will mean he has to go look for another tactic and another pictures to use. It’s sad that people can easily save to their computer or device anyone’s pictures from social media sites and use them any way they want. The day I realized this on Facebook I feared for many of us on social media sites. Please restrict your pictures to Friends only. And before adding anyone you don’t know in person as Friends on Facebook or any social media site, go over to the person’s profile and read their details. If you find out you have nothing in common, like business interests or they don’t have any information about them added to their profile, ignore the Friend request.

I am a Webmaster and a Blogger. I know how to use the Internet for maximum free publicity. I’ll make the so called Patrick and his team sweat at least before they can scam someone else again whether on this website or some else online.
